Abstract
Despite the widespread availability of sophisticated, user-friendly process modeling environments, the use of external procedures within these software packages will be necessary for quite some time. This paper illustrates the importance of properly handling these external procedures and describes a novel automated, symbolic approach for incorporating them correctly into an equation-oriented modeling environment.
